Home Weatherization
For Murray, Nobles, Pipestone, and Rock Counties.
The Weatherization Program provides the following FREE services to income eligible homeowners
and renters in an effort to increase the heating efficiency of the homes and conserve energy resources.
~ Insulating attics and walls with blown insulation and proper venting.
~ Weatherstripping and caulking windows, doors, and wall cracks.
~
Furnace inspections and improvements.

Home Energy Tips
~ Windows are the coldest surfaces in most homes. Sealing the window with weatherstipping
and caulk will reduce air leaks.
~ Turn down your thermostat 5 degrees when you leave home to lower energy costs.
~ Make sure doors and windows close tightly. Replace cracked or broken glass.
~ The water heater will be more energy efficient if it is set at a lower temperature, such as 120°.
~ Wear several layers of clothing to help stay warm.
~ Repair leaky hot water faucets.
~ Have the furnace filter
changed monthly during the winter.
~ Close off rooms that are not being
used. Shut the heat registers in those rooms.
~ Wrap your water heater
if it is in an unheated area. Wrap with a water heater blanket.
~ Use the
cold water setting to wash clothes.
~ Clean the dryer lint screen before
each load. A clogged lint screen increases drying time.
~ Always turn off
lights, TV sets, and radios when rooms are vacant.
~ Use portable heaters
only when someone is in the room.
~ Vent the clothes dryer to the outside.
