Home Energy Tips
~  Windows are the coldest surfaces in most homes. Sealing the window with weather stripping and caulk will reduce air leaks.
~  Turn down your thermostat 5 degrees when you leave home to lower energy costs.
~  Make sure doors and windows close tightly. Replace cracked or broken glass.
~  The water heater will be more energy efficient if it is set at a lower temperature, such as 120°.
~  Wear several layers of clothing to help stay warm.
~  Repair leaky hot water faucets.
~  Have the furnace filter changed monthly during the winter.
~  Close off rooms that are not being used. Shut the heat registers in those rooms.
~  Wrap your water heater if it is in an unheated area. Wrap with a water heater blanket.
~  Use the cold water setting to wash clothes.
~  Clean the dryer lint screen before each load. A clogged lint screen increases drying time.
~  Always turn off lights, TV sets, and radios when rooms are vacant.
~  Use portable heaters only when someone is in the room.
~  Vent the clothes dryer to the outside.
