Overview

SMOC, a non-profit organization, is seeking a full-time (40 hours per week) Classroom Assistant Teacher at our Head Start center in Pipestone MN.

Head Start programs prepare America’s most vulnerable young children to succeed in school and in life beyond school. To achieve this, Head Start programs deliver services to children and families in core areas of early learning, health, and family well-being while engaging parents as partners every step of the way.

The Head Start Preschool Program in Pipestone is a half-day, center-based classroom that serves 3- and 4-year-old children

Specific Skills

Bilingual skills are not required but preferred. Ability to work with 3–5-year-old children. Ability to take directions from supervisor. Ability to lift and carry supplies. Confidentiality.

Responsible For

Head Start programs are helping children get ready to success in school and in life through learning experiences tailored to their changing needs and abilities

Engages in mutually respectful goal-orientated partnerships with families to promote parent-child relationships and family well-being
Encourages learning through play, creative expression, and guided activities with schedules and lesson plans that include the cultural and language heritage of each child and family in relevant ways
Supports families’ safety, health, financial stability, life goals, and aspirations;
Enhances parent-child relationships and supports parents’ role as the first and life long educators of their children;
Supports families in using community resources that enhance family well-being and children’s learning and development
Creating welcoming learning environments in indoor and outdoor settings that are well-organized and safe
Supporting services for children with disabilities and building on their strengths
Is responsible for riding to and from the center, assisting the driver, and adhering to transportation guidelines.

Educational Requirements

Head Start Preschool assistant teacher, at a minimum, must have a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or a state-awarded certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential, be enrolled in a program that will lead to an associate or baccalaureate degree or, be enrolled in a CDA credential program to be completed within two years of the time of hire.
