Bilingual Office Assistant & Family Advocate
JOB
SUMMARY:
Assisting
parents in the role as their child’s first and most important teacher by being responsible for providing support, technical
assistance and resources to the Head Start Director and Staff with a variety of data entry and clerical
tasks.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assists Teachers, Family Support Coordinator & School Readiness
Coaches with monthly Parent Night meetings and Policy Council Meetings.
2. Assist
Operations/ERSEA Coordinator with ERATE & Transportation.
3. Maintain Family
Service Credential and provide training & support to any staff providing home visits.
4.
Takes program applications, verifying income sources and computing income to determine eligibility.
5. Assists all Coordinators with translating, data entry, clerical and filing.
6. Assists in classroom as needed, filling in as substitute for interpreter or aides.
7. Participates in Head Start recruitment, advocacy and parent involvement activities as required.
8. Adheres to the Head Start Performance Standards.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
/ EXPERIENCE
Education:
High School Diploma / GED minimum. Some college preferred but not required.
Experience:
Two years computer experience performing secretarial/human resource, fiscal or accounting duties in an office setting.
Supervisory skills and experience preferred, but not required.
SKILLS / ABILITIES:
Fluent in Spanish & English. Knowledge of community resources, social and economic
problems and social services. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with parents, coworkers
and the public. Ability to facilitate parent groups, exercise good judgment, maintains confidentiality,
organize information, maintain accurate records and express ideas clearly. Accuracy and speed in typing
required. Demonstrated computer knowledge including experience with word processing.
Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines. Confidentiality. Flexibility.
Ability to work with numerous interruptions. Capable of working with people from diverse cultures and can
work cooperatively with other agency programs and staff. Valid MN Driver’s
License and access to a vehicle.
